One of Ravensbourne’s key focuses of study is how stories are now being told across multiple platforms, generally called transmedia. There was a rather significant panel at SXSW on a new venture in this area, called Defiance, which is both a game and a TV series, developed at the same time, rather than one after the other, as is usually the case. You can read more about Defiance in my full article for ITProPortal.com. The game missions follow the TV series, so you play along with events as they unfold, albeit in another part of the future USA that forms the backdrop for the story. Game events won’t affect the TV episodes, at least not in this first season, but Defiance is still a unique attempt at making transmedia work as a whole, rather than having one main piece of content with other platforms as (usually inferior) secondary tie-ins.
